A ‘Narrow Agenda’?

To the Editor:

“When is the next election?” was the question posed in one of last week’s letters to the editor. Not soon enough for this proud relative of one of the “incompetent and arrogant leaders of this town.”

The “politicians” the writer so disparages are, with the exception of the first selectman, fellow residents who are paid the astonishing sum of $0 for their services. And in return for spending working hours poring over town budgets and then leaving their families at night to attend meetings, they’re rewarded by headline reading neighbors spouting simplistic and knee jerk opinions about important and complex issues of which they have little understanding.

Funny how devoting one’s work and family time to public service becomes a “narrow agenda.” If the lack of support exhibited by this writer became widespread, who could blame these “politicians” if they chose to give up their narrow agendas and just stay home come next election day? The writer might just get what he wishes for.
