Florence Theresa Palermo

Loving Mother

Florence Theresa Palermo, 84, of Tarrytown, N.Y., died March 5 at the Springvale Inn, Croton on Hudson, N.Y. She was the beloved wife of Rocco Louis Palermo, who predeceased her in 1987. Born in Utica, N.Y., on November 6, 1923, to Lloyd and Katherine (Misch) Zidel, Mrs Palermo was raised in Utica and the Bronx.

Mrs Palermo is survived by her four children, Robert and his wife, Allison, of Newtown, Philip and his wife, Bernadette, of Alpharetta, Ga., Richard and his wife, Peggy, of Charlottesville, Va., and Joanne and her husband, William, of Mahopac, N.Y.; eight grandchildren ages 9 to 25; and two brothers, Leonard and Joseph.

She was educated in New York City and graduated from Morris High School in 1941. On September 6, 1947, she married Rocco Palermo in St Stanislaus Church in New York City. In 1957, they moved to Tarrytown, where she lived for 51 years.

Mrs Palermo worked for more than 20 years at the Marymount College Library in Tarrytown. She was president of the Transfiguration Church Seniors Club for many years, and was a member of the Tarrytown Seniors, Transfiguration Women’s Club, and the Catholic Daughters. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Transfiguration and volunteered at Tarry Hall Nursing Home. She will be remembered for her untiring devotion to her children and grandchildren and for her generosity and support of numerous charities.

The funeral service was held at Dwyer Funeral Home in Tarrytown, March 6, with a Mass of Christian Burial on March 7, and internment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
