Four-Day

St Jude Italian Festival

Returning August 22-25

MONROE — Ready for some great Italian food, rides, games and live entertainment?

The 22nd annual St Jude Italian Festival will take place Wednesday, August 22, through Saturday, August 25, at the church grounds located at 707 Monroe Turnpike, near the intersection of Routes 111 and 110. Over the years the festival has grown from a two-day carnival to the current four-day festival, attracting over 10,000 visitors during the event.

One of the festival’s biggest attractions is its food selection: sausage and pepper grinders, pizza fritta (fried dough), fried calamari, mozzarella sticks, hamburgers, hot dogs and French fries all cooked fresh to order by parishioners. Also ziti and meatballs, chicken or eggplant parmigiana dinners or grinders, broccoli and cavatelli in garlic sauce, pizza and porkette grinders supplied from Jennie’s Restaurant of Monroe.

The festival offers Italian specialties baked by Luigi’s of Trumbull, including plain and chocolate covered cannolis, sfogliatella, tiramisu, pastaciotta, éclairs, chocolate mousse and chocolate cakes, plus Gelato Giuliana, homemade gelato from New Haven… and seating for 500 people.

Carnival rides are provided by Stewart Amusement of Trumbull. Each night is a bracelet night. Ride all rides, all night for $22. Individual ride tickets are also available. There also will be many carnival games of skill. This year’s raffle features an eight-day Caribbean cruise for two, and three times nightly there will also be 50/50 raffles conducted.

Music will include favorite a live performance of Italian songs by Angie Rubino and his band on opening night; Jim Goldstein from JMG DJ, with thousands of songs covering a wide range of music styles highlighted by a light show and other electronic surprises, on Thursday and Friday; and Atwood Express on Saturday, performing hits from the 50s to the 90s and beyond. A dance floor will be set up in front of the stage area each night.

Church tours and St Jude’s prayer shrine will be available to all each night.

Parking and free admission are free. Festival hours are Wednesday and Thursday, August 22-23, 6 to 10 pm; Friday, August 24, 6 to 10:30 pm; and Saturday, August 25, 5 to 10:30 pm. Call 203-261-6404 between 9 and 4 pm or visit www.SaintJudeChurch.net for further information.
