Skilled Cabinetmaker And Craftsman
Carl E. Werden, 87, formerly of Sandy Hook, died of complications of a stroke November 4 at the Lake Wales Medical Center, Florida. He was the husband of Sue Werden.
Mr Werden was born September 19, 1919, in Frankfort, N.Y., son of Ralph and Ella Werden. He was a longtime resident of Sandy Hook. He was a skilled cabinetmaker and was a counselor at the Fairfield Hills Hospital Drug and Alcohol program. In 1979 he moved to Florida where he retired as the counselor and director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program at Lakeland Manor Hospital.
After his retirement he was a self-employed cabinetmaker and furniture craftsman. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and was a very active and longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors include his wife; children Tim Werden of Newtown, Kim Keenan, Albert V. Werden, Carl Werden, and Ricky Werden all of Southbury, Mark Werden of South Carolina, Kenny Werden of New York, and James Werden of Florida; stepchildren James Corbett of Conn.; Karen Corbett of Washington, D.C.; a sister Evelyn Courtemanche of Conn.; and several grand- and great-grandchildren.
Mr Werden was predeceased by two children, Carol Ann Werden and Rory Jay Werden, and a stepdaughter, Linda Corbett.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Sunday, November 19, at Christ Church Quaker Farms, 470 Quaker Farms Road, Oxford, with Rev George Crocker officiating.
