NYCAAP And Newcomers Host AIDS Benefit Fashion Show
NYCAAP And Newcomers Host AIDS Benefit Fashion Show
On Wednesday, May 7, at 7 pm, Newtown Youth Servicesâ peer AIDS education group, NYCAAP, in collaboration with Newcomers, will host a fashion show featuring items created by the students for their AIDSWear project.
AIDSWear is a line of clothes, accessories, and gift items designed and made by the students in NYCAAP to fundraise and raise awareness about AIDS issues. The project is underwritten by a grant from Paul Newmanâs Newmanâs Own Foundation.
The proceeds for the fashion show will be donated to Rick Hodes for his work as a doctor at the Mother Teresa Mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Former NYCAAP member Ami Kilchevsky, now a student at Middlebury College, recently spent a winter term volunteering at the clinic with Dr Hodes. Amiâs mother, Laurie, a Newtown Youth Services board member and volunteer with NYCAAP, brought Dr Hodesâ work to the attention of the group, who wanted to do a fundraiser to help.
Admission to the fashion show is $5 at the door. Refreshments will be provided. To reserve a space call NYS at 270-4335. It is not necessary to be a member of Newcomers to attend this event. The evening is open to the public to show support for the students and their project.
