Join The Campaign For A Skate Park

To the Editor:

We will know more about the status of our skateboard park the week of February 13.

A big thank you to Barbara Kasbarian, director of Parks and Rec, Ed Marks, Parks and Rec Commission, for all your support! They are confident we will find a home for our park soon.

I’ve received many emails from Newtowners as well as out-of-towners offering to volunteer as well as expert advice on how to proceed.

Mark Tambascio from My Place restaurant was the first person referred to me and has committed himself 100 percent. He has already taken on major responsibilities for the campaign. Thanks to Mark and to everyone who’s stepped forward to help already.

We are forming a committee. Each member will oversee the many different aspects of reaching our goal.

We need as many volunteers as possible, to raise a lot of money to make this dream come true. We all have busy lives, so if you can volunteer even a little, please sign up. We are especially counting on high school and middle school students to sign up. If you’re not involved in skateboarding and just want to be part of the fun, we welcome you too.

You can sign on by emailing donate2skatelc@aol.com or markatmyplacepizza.com. Thanks in advance.

The Skate Campaign will take a lot of hard work, perseverance, and faith in each other. It will bring out the best in us and bring our community together.

All of our effort will bring forth a safe haven for our skaters and demonstrate the true generosity of Newtowners and volunteers of surrounding towns in Connecticut.

Also, thanks to Kendra at The Bee for a great job reporting the news.

Lets Get It Done!

Sincerely.
