Newtown Base Technologies 5, Danbury Michaelâs Café 4: Four Newtown pitchers â Dean Demers, Alex Romeo, John Lebinski, and Mike Daubert â combined on a four-hitter en route to victory Sunday at Fairfield Hills Field. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Newtownâs Andrew Martinez drilled a line-drive triple up the gap in left center. Daubert was hit by a pitch and then got in a rundown attempting to steal second. Danburyâs first baseman dropped the ball, and Martinez scored. Brock Chimileski walked, and Demers drove in two runs by smashing a triple. Kaleb Rowe, who had two singles, drove in Newtownâs first run with a bases-loaded walk, and Romeo drove in the next run on a fielderâs choice. Lebinski ripped a second-inning double to right center. Playing third base, Martinez made a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch in short left field in the first inning. He moved to left field and made a clutch catch with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to prevent Danbury from scoring. In the final inning, first baseman Rowe made a nice scoop for the first out. With the potential winning runs on first and third, Daubert induced Danburyâs clean-up hitter to slap a pitch to second baseman Ben Stoller who threw to Rowe for the final out.
Aspetuck 12 Newtown Base Technologies 3: Aspetuck rapped 13 hits, including numerous long doubles and triples, in an easy win Saturday at Newtown Middle School Field. Newtown scored two runs in the first inning when Dean Demers slashed a double to right center, Ben Stoller singled, and Kaleb Rowe bounced an RBI single up the middle. Newtown was subsequently held hitless until the sixth inning. Demers singled, moved to second on an error, and scored when Stoller drilled an RBI double to left center.
Newtown Base Technologies 7, Danbury Adecco 5: Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Newtown sent ten batters to the plate and scored four runs to beat Danbury last Friday night at Fairfield Hills Field. Ben Stoller lined a single to left center and moved to second on an error. John Lebinski walked. After Stoller was caught stealing third, Kaleb Rowe punched a single down the left field line. Mario Pizighelli reached on an error when the first baseman pulled his foot off the bag, and Lebinski raced home from second while Danbury argued the umpireâs call. Andrew Martinez followed with an RBI single, and another run scored when Greg Horne reached on an error. Colin Dutt was hit by a pitch, and Mike Daubert walked to drive in a run. Demers yielded two runs in the final inning but got the save after he wisely backed up the catcher Brock Chimileski. Danburyâs Robert Bonnaccci crushed a long, two-RBI triple that centerfielder Horne raced to pick up. He threw to Daubert who threw to the plate over Chimileskiâs head. Demers, who was perfectly positioned far from the plate, caught the errant throw and threw to Chimileski. The catcher tagged the runner for the final out. Pizighelli hurled three shutout innings, yielding two hits and striking out three batters.
