Labor Day Parade Judges Named
Labor Day Parade Grand Marshal Eunice Laverty has tapped five people to join her on the Judges Stand on Monday, September 3.
Ms Laverty was named in May as the grand marshal for the 57th annual celebration of all things Newtown. This year’s parade will follow the theme of “Serving The Community.”
The judges for this year’s parade will be Ms Laverty’s daughter, Kate Laverty; along with Peter and Michelle D’Aprile; Ed and Doreen Kelleher; and Martina Sprague.
The 57th annual parade will step off at 10 am Monday, September 3.
The parade route will again begin at the corner of Main Street and Currituck Road. Marchers will travel south along Main Street, turn left onto Glover Avenue, and then bear left onto Queen Street. The route will follow Queen Street to its conclusion at the intersection with Church Hill Road.
Reviewing stands will be set up on Main Street at the flagpole and on Queen Street in front of Bank of America. The Judges Stand will be adjacent to the Queen Street Reviewing Stand.
The deadline to participate in the parade was August 10. Donations to cover the cost of putting on the state’s largest, if not only, Labor Day Parade continue to be accepted, however. According to Melissa Kopcik, co-coordinator of the parade lineup for the third year, it costs approximately $30,000 to stage the event.
