Area Home & Garden Tour Will Benefit

AmeriCares Free Clinics

DANBURY — Local history buffs will appreciate the opportunity to take a peek inside a historic Deer Hill Avenue home in Danbury and benefit the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury at the same time. Whether enjoyed on the same day of the Newtown Historical Society Homes & Gardens Tour or on Sunday, after the Newtown event has concluded (see feature about that tour elsewhere in this week’s paper), the event will offer another opportunity to look into a home not usually seen while benefiting a local non-profit organization.

On Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24, the 100-year old Italian Renaissance Mansion at 49 Deer Hill Avenue will be open to the public from 11 am to 4 pm. Visitors are also invited to tour the half-acre of park-like grounds, framed by majestic white pines and hemlock trees, and home to lush terraced and sunken gardens.  The Danbury Museum and Historical Society has provided a published self-guided walking tour of other prominent Deer Hill Avenue homes, with details about their architectural styles and their original owners.

All tickets are $15 if purchased in advance; admission at the door will be $20, with all proceeds benefiting the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury. Goodie bags will be given to the first 200 visitors and box lunches provided by Biksbee’s will be available for those who wish to picnic on the grounds.

Tickets are available online and can also be purchased in advance at Danbury Museum and Historical Society, 43 Main Street in Danbury.

For more event information or advance ticket purchases, contact Deb Howard, community affairs manager at AmeriCares Free Clinics at 203-658-9651 or visit AmeriCaresFreeClinics.org.

AmeriCares Free Clinics is a community program of AmeriCares, a nonprofit humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization that supports long-term medical assistance programs and provides emergency relief in the U.S. and around the world. Since it was established in 1982, AmeriCares has distributed more than $6.5 billion in humanitarian aid to 137 countries.
