Families Join Together To Lose The Litter

Nearly a dozen families from the High Rock Road/Kelly Court area of Sandy Hook have committed to ridding their neighborhood of rubbish as part of Newtownâs 19th annual Lose The Litter Day, Saturday, April 25.
Disgusted by the amount of litter that has blossomed with the early spring flowers along the roads that she jogs each day, Karen Alexander contacted Lions Club member and Lose The Litter Chairperson Ed Miklaszewski after reading in The Bee about the clean-up day, to find out how she and her neighbors could participate.
âEd said that we could pick up gloves and bags, orange safety vests, and some picks for the day, and Iâm hoping we can leave filled bags for the town to pick up,â said Ms Alexander, who has garnered the support of nearly a dozen other families in the neighborhood.
The adults will supervise the daylong High Rock litter walk, and will be joined by almost two dozen of their children and their friends, all committed to making the neighborhood a nicer part of town.
Allison Samson, 13, Owen Samson, 10, Danielle Samson, 8; Amanda Watson, 15, Brittany Watson, 11; Aimee Alexander, 11, Annika Alexander, 10, Maggie Alexander, 8; Tommy Stewart, 15, Mitchell Stewart, 13, Matthew Stewart, 10; Doug Carriero, 8, Angela Carriero, 6; Carter Tagliarini, 7, Melissa Tagliarini, 4; Trystan Wagner, 11, Austin Wagner, 10; Kate Cochrane, 15, James Cochrane, 10; Justin Gillespie, 10; Lizzi Hodge, 9; and Carly Kreshpaw, 9, all plan to be there to Lose The Litter in their neighborhood April 25.
âItâs amazing how much garbage there is along the roads this spring,â said Ms Alexander. But with everybody joining forces, she expects April 26 to dawn on a new â and cleaner â day when they are finished.
