Volunteer Center Local Opportunities
DANBURY â The Volunteer Center is a leader in strengthening the local community by connecting people to volunteer service.
The following are some of the current volunteer opportunities. Call 203-797-1154, send e-mail to volunteers@volunteerdanbury.org or visit VolunteerDanbury.org for additional information on these and other opportunities:
*First Night Danbury needs volunteers to assist as greeters and button checkers at venue sites in downtown Danbury on Friday, December 31, during the hours of 3:30 to 7:30 pm.
Volunteers are given free venue buttons and can volunteer in two-hour shifts or for the whole event. Ages 14 and up are welcome to help and can receive community service hours if needed.
Contact Stacy Olszewski at 203-270-9461 or FirstNightVolunteer@yahoo.com if you can help. This is a great family friendly volunteer opportunity.
*Child Advocacy training will be held locally Tuesday through Thursday, January 11â13, and Wednesday and Thursday, January 19â20, from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm each day.
After completing all sessions and the application process, volunteers become Guardian Ad Litems to advocate and act in the best interests of at-risk children through the Danbury court system.
*Program Review team members are needed to review nonprofit funding proposals from agencies in the greater Danbury and New Milford area using established criteria.
Team members will spend up to 40 hours reading proposals and attending discussions. Funding proposals will be in the key impact areas of education, health, and income self-sufficiency.
The review process starts in mid-January and runs to mid-April.
*Gift cards to area retailers or food stores are needed to distribute to low income families. Many family members are unemployed during the winter season and could use the extra help.
