John W. Boeckel

John W. Boeckel, 79, of Southbury, died January 1 at his home. He was the husband of Norma G. (Runyan) Boeckel.

Mr Boeckel was born March 11, 1921, in Redbank, N.J., son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Laury) Boeckel. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving as a navigator and flying 39 missions over the Pacific. He earned six campaign ribbons and a presidential citation. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from City College in New York in 1950. Over the course of the next 30 years, he earned six patents and worked for General Motors, General Electric, and retired from Dupont. He later became a mail carrier with the US Postal Service in Southbury, where he worked until May of this past year. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Newtown. Formerly of Hamden, he was a resident of Southbury for 16 years.

Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves one son, Joseph Boeckel of Southbury and one daughter, Nancy Boeckel, also of Southbury; one brother, Thomas Boeckel of New Jersey; and one sister, Arline Woosley of Kansas.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 6, at 11 am at Christ the King Church, Route 6, Newtown. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Friday, January 5, from 6 to 9 pm at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.
