Lawrence Paul Reed

US Army Veteran

Lawrence Paul Reed, 88, died July 11 at the Masonicare Rehabilitation Facility in Newtown after a month’s difficult illness. He was born in Jamaica, Queens, on April 23, 1921, attended New York City public schools, Brooklyn Technical High School, and Pratt Institute.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lavonne Elvira Reed of Southbury; two daughters; and one granddaughter.

Mr Reed served from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Army, 544th Field Artillery Battalion. He belonged to American Legion Post 204 at Heritage Village in Southbury.

He was employed for 25 years by the Uniroyal Corporation as a mechanical engineer, and settled with his family in Dodgingtown section of Newtown. He and his wife raised both of their daughters in Newtown, both of whom graduated from Newtown High School. He was, in the years that it existed, a member of the Newtown Badminton Club. Mr Reed and his wife moved to Heritage Village in 2005.

He had been over the years an avid photographer, woodworker, bowler, and badminton player.

Friends may call Saturday, July 18, from 4 to 7 pm, at the home of Tony and Linda Strange, 111 Plaster House Road, Southbury, to celebrate his life.
