Lawmaker Wants Halloween Held On Saturday

HARTFORD (AP) — East Hartford state Representative Tim Larson is suggesting that Connecticut always observe Halloween on the last Saturday in October.

The Democrat said Monday that he has spoken with the parents of young children and they believe weekday trick-or-treating creates problems for kids who have to get up early the next day for school.

This year, Halloween falls on a Monday.

Larson said he doesn’t expect lawmakers to take up the matter this week when they meet to vote on two jobs bills. However, the lawmaker said he hopes it can be addressed in next year’s legislative session.

Republican state Senator Rob Kane said the “well-intentioned” proposal symbolizes what’s wrong with government. He said that less government is needed.
