Funding NewtownToday For Tomorrow
Funding Newtown
Today For Tomorrow
To the Editor:
Last week The Bee reported on the Planning and Zoning Commissionâs planning workshop on revising the Town Plan of Conservation and Development. My participation at this workshop involved the preparation of a vision statement for Newtown. The following was my personal attempt at such a statement:
âNewtown will maintain and enhance its historical and rural characteristics. The town will continue to be defined by a strong community feeling which values its individual members by assuring the importance of a quality education for its children and the presence of a dedicated effort to support cultural and quality of life issues.â
I read this at the April 2 meeting of the Legislative Council called to finalize the budget. Sharing this statement was my attempt to focus the council on the importance of properly funding the Newtown of today in order to ensure the Newtown of tomorrow. In my opinion, the council did just that by approving the budget as submitted by the Board of Finance.
I encourage everyone to show his/her support for the future of Newtown by voting YES for the budget on April 22.
Sincerely,
