Rare And Elusive Birds

Of North America

DERBY — The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society, Inc, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Kellogg Environmental Center, will host a program, “Rare and Elusive Birds of North America,” on Tuesday, June 15, at 7:30 pm.

Author/photographer William Burt will speak about the 16 years he spent seeking out and photographing the continent’s 20 most elusive birds, all featured in his book, Rare & Elusive Birds Of North America (Rizzoli/Universe, fall 2001).

Mr Burt is a naturalist whose work is devoted to wild places and elusive birds — especially marshes, lately, and shy marsh birds such as rails and bitterns.

Mr Burt’s photographs and stories have been seen in Smithsonian, Audubon, National Wildlife and other magazines; and his exhibitions have now traveled to 27 museums and arts institutions across North America including The New Brunswick Museum, The Calgary Science Center, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the MCZ at Harvard.

The program will take place at Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Avenue. A donation of $6 for adults and $3 for students under 16 is requested.

For further information, directions or to register, phone the Kellogg Environmental Center at 734-2513.
