UConn Now In Top 25 Of Public Universities
UConn Now In Top 25
Of Public Universities
STORRS â The University of Connecticut has broken into the ranks of the top 25 public universities in the nation, jumping six places in the US News & World Reportâs annual rankings.
UConn is now tied with Miami University of Ohio; last year it was in a six-way tie for the 31st spot.
âThe ranking confirms the decisions high-achieving Connecticut students and their parents, and increasingly, top out-of-state students and parents, are making about the university,â said M. Dolan Evanoich, vice provost for enrollment services. âEvery trend line for UConn has been upward, and the gains made in just the last year alone are dramatic. The momentum is continuing and accelerating.â
The US News rankings are based on data from last fall. Data from this fall, however, reveal even more progress, said Mr Evanoich. Applications for this yearâs freshman class were up 28 percent this year, and, for the first time, out-of-state applications outnumbered in-state ones. While the freshman class remains 70 percent Connecticut students, the increasing number of applications demonstrates the universityâs increasingly widespread recognition, noted Mr Evanoich.
UConnâs admission process is also becoming increasingly competitive. In 1995, 70 percent of applications were admitted. This fall, only 53 percent were accepted.
