Brushy Hill Mishap
Motorist Lauren Pade, 17, of 6 Stonewall Ridge Road was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy northward on Brushy Hill Road about 4 pm May 23, when while negotiating a curve in the road, Pade lost control of the vehicle, police said.
The auto crossed the roadâs center line and struck a stone wall along the southbound road shoulder, police said. The vehicle then spun around and came to rest in the driveway at 53 Brushy Hill Road, along the northbound side of the road, police said.
Police said they issued Pade a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
Hyundai Vs Chevrolet
Motorist Richard Christoffers, 63, of 9 Ferris Road, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe westward on Sugar Street about 11:10 am May 25, passed a tractor-trailer truck and then returned to the normal westbound travel lane, but then collided near Scudder Road with the rear end of a westbound 1994 Chevrolet Caprice driven by Olga Paproski, 85, of 5 Hattertown Road, police said.
Paproski was transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance on a report of chest and neck pain, police said. Police issued Christoffers a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Flagpole Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident near the Main Street flagpole about 5:40 pm May 21.
Motorist Marianne Dyer, 26, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu southward on Main Street, passed a motor vehicle on the right and then collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Sean LaPorta, 17, of 34 Lake Road, police said. The collision occurred near the Main Street flagpole.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Dyer for passing on the right.
Queen Street
Motorist Andrew Keogler, 17, of 10 Partridge Lane was driving a 2000 Acura 3.2-T southward on Queen Street at about 5:17 pm May 27, when a noncontact vehicle, which was traveling southward directly in front of the Acura, began making a right turn into the parking lot at 6 Queen Street, so the Acura then began to pass the noncontact vehicle on the left, police report.
At that time, motorist Helen Smith, 68, of 57 Elm Drive, who was driving a 1994 Lincoln Town Car southward directly behind the Acura, began to pass the Acura and the noncontact vehicle on the left, police said. As the Lincoln was passing the Acura, the Lincoln and the Acura collided, police said.
There were no injuries, police said. Police issued Smith a written warning for improper passing.

Multiple Charges
While working at a festival at the Newtown United Methodist Church at 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center about 1 pm May 29, police noticed the presence of a woman for whom they held two outstanding arrest warrants in connection with past incidents.
Police said that as they approached Linda Bailey, 44, of 19 Dayton Street, she ran off, resulting in police chasing her. Police said Bailey resisted and struggled with an officer before he was able to take her into custody.
In connection with that May 29 incident, police charged Bailey with assault on a police officer, breach of pace, and interfering with an officer.
In connection with the two outstanding warrants, police charged Bailey with second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree failure to appear in court.
Police held Bailey on a combined bail of $20,000 for a June 1 arraignment on the six charges in Danbury Superior Court.
High School Incident
Police report that late on the morning of May 28, the police officer assigned to Newtown High School was helping school officials deal with a disruptive student in the school cafeteria.
Student Tyler Knapp, 16, of 115 Edge Lake Drive then interfered with police by standing in their way and becoming verbally abusive, police said. Knapp then refused to leave the area after he was ordered to do so several times, according to police.
Police said that during the confrontation, Knapp squirted water from a water bottle onto police. Police said they arrested Knapp and a consequent search turned up some prescription drugs which were not prescribed for Knapp.
Police said they charged Knapp with interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to keep prescription drugs in their original container.
After posting $100 bail, police released Knapp for a June 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the four charges.
Alcohol/Accident
While driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat northward on Flat Swamp Road about 1:40 am May 29, Christopher Capone, 19, of 16 Brookwood Drive crossed the roadâs yellow line and struck a tree in front of 4 Flat Swamp Road, police report.
Police charged Capone with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Police additionally issued Capone a written warning for possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle.
After posting $50 bail, police released Capone for a June 16 court appearance.
Jewelry Box
Police reported this week that they are holding for safekeeping a brown wooden jewelry box, which was found next to a blue-and-white pillowcase on April 10 on High Rock Road. The owner should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 426-5841 to claim the items.
Mailbox Damage
Sometime between 4:30 pm May 27 and 8 am May 28, someone damaged a mailbox positioned at 1 Farmery Lane, police report. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them.
Alcohol Incident
Police said they received a report from a witness that Jeffrey LaFlamme, 19, of 10 Arlyn Ridge Road, who was driving a Jeep Cherokee on Glen Road on the night of May 30, threw an object from that vehicle.
Police said they found and stopped the Jeep and found a bottle of rum and some beer inside it. Police said they also found a side-handled baton-style weapon inside the vehicle similar to the nightsticks used by police.
Police said the offenses they lodged against LaFlamme are possession of weapon in a motor vehicle and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Police released LaFlamme on a promise to appear June 10 in Danbury Superior Court.
Drug/Alcohol Charges
Police report that they stopped motorist Michelle Hewig, 19, of Huntington for driving through a stop sign on Pole Bridge Road on the night of May 29. Police said that before they stopped Hewig, she threw a beer cup out of the window of the vehicle that she was driving. A search of the auto turned up alcohol, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Police said they charged Hewig with failure to obey a stop sign, littering, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and with possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle.
After processing the case, police released Hewig on a promise to appear June 16 in Danbury Superior Court.
Dickenson Park
Police reported this week that a finger ring and a pendant, which were found in Dickinson Park in mid-May, were turned over to them for safekeeping. The owner should contact police at 426-5841 to claim the items.
Dodge Vs Deer
At about 11 am May 24, motorist Howard Boyd, 42, of Guilford, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan westward on Route 34 near Paugussett Road, collided with a deer that ran out into the road, police said. Boyd was not injured. The deer died. There was no enforcement action.
SUV Vs Volvo
Motorist Lucinda Carlson, 35, of 6 Ironwood Drive, who was driving a 2003 Ford Expedition that was carrying three passengers southward on Cherry Street about 5 pm May 27, failed to grant the right of way at Cherry Streetâs intersection with Riverside Road, and collided with a 1996 Volvo 850 station wagon being driven westward on Riverside Road by Iris Baldino, 36, of 18 Gelding Hill Road, police said. The Volvo carried two passengers.
There were no injuries, police said. Police said they issued Carlson a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Truck Vs SUV
Motorist Cynthia DeMarco, 42, of 29 Whitewood Road, who was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon carrying two passengers westward on Wasserman Way about 2:23 pm May 28, stopped in the roadâs right lane and was waiting to make a right turn onto northbound South Main Street, when the GMC was struck from behind by a 2000 Ford F-350 dump truck driven by Thomas Mead, 33, of Southbury, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Mead a written warning for following too closely.
Moving Violations
Police said that on May 30, they stopped motorist Nancy Yarosis, 39, of Waterbury while she was traveling near 50 Church Hill Road for improperly displaying a marker plate.
After investigating, police charged Yarosis with improper display of marker plates, driving while under suspension, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Police released Yarosis on a promise to appear June 15 in Danbury Superior Court.
MV Charges
Police said that on the night of May 31, they stopped motorist Fortino Hernandez-Maces, 19, of Bridgeport on southbound South Main Street, near the Ram Pasture, for having an improperly displayed marker plate. After investigating, police charged Hernandez-Maces with improper display of marker plates, misuse of marker plates, and with driving without a driverâs license. Police released Hernandez-Maces on $250 bail for a June 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Accident/Drugs
State police report that motorist Louis Sanchez, 33, of Hartford was driving a 1996 Dodge Caravan minivan eastward on Interstate 84, about one mile west of the Housatonic River, about 10 pm May 27, when he lost control of the vehicle and the minivan rolled over on the right road shoulder.
State police report that during the course of their investigation, they determined that Sanchez was under the influence of narcotics, which were located in the minivan.
State police said they charged Sanchez with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell. Also, state police charged passenger Jose Carrasquillo, 27, of New Britain with possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Both men were transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries received in the accident, state police said. Both men were scheduled for appearances in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
Car Vs Truck
State police report that at about 3 pm May 28, motorist Jennifer Omasta, 17, of 8 Crown View Drive, who was driving a 1999 Mitsubishi coupe westward on Interstate 84, about 200 feet east of Exit 11, made an unsafe lane change from the left lane to the center lane and struck the left side of a westbound tractor-trailer truck driven by Thomas Moldovan, 46, of Laredo, Texas. There were no injuries. State police said Omasta made an unsafe lane change.
Alcohol/Drug Charges
Police report that they spotted a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta parked at the ball field on Bridge End Farm Lane at about 10 pm May 28 and investigated.
Police said they then charged Justin Bitar, 18, of Danbury with possession of alcohol by a minor in public, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and with sixth degree larceny by possession. The larceny charge stems from the presence of a âNo Parkingâ sign inside the auto, police said.
Police also charged Anthony Buonaiuto, 19, of New Milford with possession of alcohol by a minor in public.
Police released Bitar on $1,000 bail and released Buonaiuto on $100 bail. Both are scheduled to appear June 17 in Danbury Superior Court.
Leaf Blower
At about 2 pm May 31, someone stole a backpack-style leaf blower from a lawn service truck that was parked at 86 Huntingtown Road, police report. Anyone with information about the equipmentâs theft is asked to contact police at 426-5841.
South Main Accident
Motorist Bryan Jamerson, 18, of Danbury, who was driving a Honda Accord southward on South Main Street about 6 pm May 27, failed to see traffic that was stopped a red traffic signal on South Main Street near Country Club Road, police said.
The Honda drove into the rear end of a stopped 1995 Chevrolet Corsica driven by Ronnie Saracino, 66, of Shelton, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Jamerson a written warning for following too closely.
Moving Violations
Police report that while using speed radar they detected that motorist Brooke Heck, 36, of 43 Moccasin Trail was driving 39 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone on Riverside Road on June 1. Police said they stopped Heck on Narragansett Trail to investigate and charged her with traveling too fast and with driving while under suspension. Police released Heck on a promise to appear June 15 in Danbury Superior Court.
Warrant
Police report they arrested Philip Scapaturra, III, 36, of 4 Beaver Dam Road on an warrant on June 1, listing charges of second-degree failure to appear in court and breach of peace.
The original charge of breach of peace stems from a neighborhood incident last February concerning the interaction of dogs, according to police. In that incident, Scappatura allegedly shouted profanities and threw a ceramic ornament in the direction of a neighborâs residence, according to police.
After processing the arrest, police released Scappatura on $1,000 bail for a June 15 court appearance.
Shopping Center Incident
Police said they received a complaint about 10 pm June 1 that a small group of youths had gathered in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street, and that one of the youths was handling a baseball bat, so police went to investigate.
Police said they found the baseball bat in the back seat of an auto driven by James Riddle, 18, of 21 Lyrical Lane, so they charged Riddle with possession of a weapon in motor vehicle.
Police said their investigation determined that Marcos Gomez, 20, of Danbury had been handling the baseball bat, so they charged him with breach of peace. Police released both youths on bail for June 16 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.
Jeep Vs Plymouth
On the afternoon of June 1, a 2002 Jeep Liberty sport-utility vehicle driven by Sarah Champagne, 18, of 63 Hattertown Road struck the rear end of a 2000 Plymouth Neon driven by Tina Wills, 44, of Ansonia, police said. The accident occurred at a traffic signal at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Exit 11 of Interstate 84. There were no injuries. Police issued Champagne a written warning for unsafe movement.
