AVV 6-18 #703557
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. â On Wednesday, June 27, at 6:30 pm, The Hammer Museum presents âPaint It Black: African American Film Nowâ during the Los Angeles Film Festival, which is ongoing through July 1.
Elvis Mitchell will moderate a discussion with Stephanie Allain (producer Black Snake Moan/Hustle & Flow), Charles King (William Morris Agency), Charles Burnett (Killer of Sheep) and John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood).
What defines a film as African American? Can films about black characters, produced by white filmmakers be considered âblack filmsâ? Are African American filmmakers entitled (or restricted) to only make stories about black characters? Prominent African American filmmakers talk about their work and explore defining moments in contemporary black cinema.
