Warrant

While on patrol on the morning of February 17, state police learned that Newtown police held a warrant for Jeanne Abric, 45, of 87 Berkshire Road, so they contacted Newtown police.

Newtown police then charged Abric with failure to respond to an infraction, and with allowing a dog to roam. The dog charge stems from a December 2004 incident, according to Newtown police.

Police released Abric on $100 bail for a March 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sandy Hook

Center DUI

Police report that at about 11:40 pm on February 17, they received a call from a motorist stating that a vehicle was being driven erratically eastward on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, so police went there to investigate.

Police said they stopped motorist Walter Moradel, 35, of Danbury and gave him field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with driving while under suspension.

After posting $100 bail, police released Moradel for a March 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Shoplifting Charge

Late on the night of February 19, Super Stop & Shop store security staff stopped John Zanesky, 38, of 55 Sugar Street as he attempted to leave the store with several DVDs and food items without having paid for them, according to police.

Police said they investigated and charged Zanesky with sixth degree larceny. Zanesky was released on a promise to appear in court on February 24.

Route 302 DUI

Police report they stopped motorist Thomas Giordano, 37, of Bethel about 1:16 am February 20, after they noticed that he was failing to drive to the right on Route 302. Giordano failed field sobriety testing, police said.

Police charged Giordano with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released him on $500 bail for a March 10 court appearance.

Fleetwood Drive

Sometime between February 8 and 9, someone entered a house under construction on Fleetwood Drive and stole two tools from the premises, according to police. The crime committed is fifth degree larceny, reflecting the theft of items worth between $250 and $500. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of who stole the tools to contact them at 426-5841.

Three-Vehicle Crash

Motorist Edgar W. Beers, 67, of 36 Hawleyville Road was driving a 1996 Dodge Intrepid sedan northward on Hawleyville Road about 11:44 am February 18, and then slowed to make a right turn into a commercial driveway at 30 Hawleyville Road, police said.

At that time, northbound motorist Jonathan Graver, 26, of 51 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport-utility vehicle, struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

 That impact pushed the Dodge forward, causing the Dodge to collide with motorist Barbara J. Oster, 61, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1993 Buick LeSabre sedan westward on the driveway, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Graver an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Reckless Burning

Police report that on the night of February 20, they charged a 14-year-old boy with reckless burning and with breach of the peace after he lit a fire behind a house on Mackenzie Circle in the Shady Rest section of Sandy Hook. State law shields the identities of youths under age 16 who are charged with crimes.

The youth was later released from police custody on a promise to appear February 28 in Danbury Juvenile Court. Reckless burning is a felony.

Orange Pippin Theft

Police learned on February 17 of a theft that had occurred on Orange Pippin Road almost one month earlier. Sometime on the night of January 20 or the morning of January 21, someone stole a purse and a portable DVD player from a parked, unlocked auto in a driveway there, police said.

The unknown thief then made several charges against credit cards that were being kept in the stolen purse, police said. Also, the thief stole $200 in cash that was in the purse.

The crimes committed are illegal use of a credit card and fourth degree larceny. Fourth degree larceny involves the theft of between $500 and $1,000. Police urge motorists to keep their autos locked when the vehicles are unattended.

 

Toyota Hits Pole

Motorist David Williams, 36, of Southbury was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup truck southward on a snowy Commerce Road about 5:30 pm February 21, when the vehicle slid on snow and ice and then struck a utility pole, police said. Williams was not injured. Police issued Williams a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

Toddy Hill Accident

Motorist Devon Newell, 47, of Waterbury was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango northward on Toddy Hill Road, near Sugarloaf Road, in a snowstorm about 10:15 am February 21, when while attempting to negotiate a curve to the right, the vehicle slid on the snowy road and went down an embankment, police said. Newell was not injured. Police issued Newell a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Wasserman Way

Crash

While traveling westward on Wasserman Way, near the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84, about 7:50 am February 21, motorist Beverly Reynolds, 56, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Honda CRV, slid on the snowy roadway and struck a snowplow affixed to a privately owned 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck being driven westward there by Stephen Gerak, 32, of 6 Skidmore Lane, police said.

There were no injuries, police said. Police issued Reynolds a written warning for traveling too fast.

Saturn Into Tree

During a snowstorm about 9:30 am February 21, motorist Jacqueline Brown, 23, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Saturn sedan northward near 271 South Main Street, lost control of the auto while negotiating a curve, slid off the right side of the road and struck a tree, police report.

Brown was not injured. Police verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.

Speeding Violation

Police report that on the morning of February 23, they stopped motorist Stuart McGlone, 23, of Bloomfield on Mt Pleasant Road to investigate, after which they charged him with speeding and with driving while under suspension. Police released McGlone from custody on a promise to appear March 3 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Acura Hits Pole

Motorist James F. Repasi, Jr, 16, of 25 Chestnut Hill Road was driving a 1991 Acura Integra westward on Park Lane about 8:40 pm February 23, when while negotiating a curve, the Acura went out of control, crossed into the eastbound lane, left the eastbound road shoulder, and struck a utility pole, police report.

Repasi was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Lexus Vs Audi

Motorist Vincent Wojcik, 34, of 2 Bari Drive was driving a 1995 Lexus GS-300 sedan southward on Old Stream Road at about 8:12 am February 23 and then attempted to stop at a stop sign at Old Stream Road’s intersection with Orchard Hill Road, but slid on the snowy road and collided with an eastbound 2004 Audi A-8 sedan driven by Robert Bedoukian, 56, of Redding, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Wojcik a written warning for a stop sign violation and also issued him an infraction ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Gasoline Leak

Motorist Jacqueline Ann Duguay, 34, of New Milford was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck southward near 157 Hanover Road about 7:35 am February 22, when she lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve and a struck a utility pole, police said.

The truck’s fuel tank ruptured in the accident and leaked several gallons of gasoline. Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident for a fuel spill cleanup.

Duguay was not injured. Police verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.
