Danbury Hospital

The Regional Heart and Vascular Center at Danbury Hospital has appointed two full-time cardiothoracic surgeons for the new open-heart surgery and angioplasty program. Michael M. Frymus, MD is the new chief of cardiothoracic surgery, and Eugene D. Fernandes, MD, is the staff cardiothoracic surgeon. Dr Frymus brings more than 15 years of experience in adult cardiac surgery. Board-certified in cardiothoracic and general surgery, he came to Danbury Hospital from Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, where he served as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center and an assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine since 1992. Last year Dr Frymus had one of the lowest risk-adjusted mortality rates in New York State. Prior to joining Danbury Hospital, Dr Fernandes had been with the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, since 1997. He completed his residency there in general surgery, and was later promoted to a clinical fellow for cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, a position he held from 2002 to 2004. He is board certified in general surgery training and holds a MCh degree in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

Karen Gnuse Nead, MD, has joined Ridgefield Primary Care and Danbury Hospital’s departments of medicine and pediatrics. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Internal Medicine with a special interest in preventive health care, especially the prevention of obesity in children. She earned her medical degree and completed a combined residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship there in general academic pediatrics. Previously she was an attending physician and assistant professor of pediatrics at the Yale University School of Medicine, where she won the 2004 Howard A. Peterson Faculty Teaching Award.

Michael Baroody, MD, has joined the hospital’s department of surgery, section of plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is eligible for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a candidate member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He earned his medical degree at the State University of New York in Syracuse and completed a combined residency in plastic surgery and general surgery at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at the Penn State College of Medicine, where he was honored with the Steven H. Miller MD Award for outstanding teaching by a plastic surgery resident.

St Vincent’s Medical Center

Kevin Webster Dickey, MD, FSIR, has been appointed the new chairperson of radiology services. He will oversee the implementation of the new PACS (picture archiving communication system) and the introduction of a new radiology information system and several major technology upgrades in CT scanning, electrophysiology, and special procedures. A member of the Fairfield County Radiology Associates, PC, he most recently served as the director of vascular and interventional radiology and director of clinical research at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.

Dental Associates

Ying Sung, DDS, has joined the Newtown office of Dental Associates. She is a graduate of McGill University and the New York University College of Dentistry, where she earned a doctorate in dental surgery. She completed a residency at the University of Stony Brook Dental Center with emphasis in implant restoration and cosmetic dentistry.

Robert H. Galella, DDS, has joined the Danbury office of Dental Associates. He received his undergraduate degree at SUNY in Albany and his doctorate in dental surgery from SUNY at Stony Brook, N.Y. He then served four years in the US Air Force as a general dentist and as officer in charge of preventive dentistry and orthodontics, and occupational and health safety.
