To the Editor:

By now I can only imagine that many of you are asking, “Should I read another letter of endorsement?” I’m encouraging you to take a minute to read this one, and I promise to be direct and not waste your valuable time. Since I live in District 3, the candidates for Legislative Council there are of great interest to me. I’m happy to report that the three Republicans running are well-qualified and have a proven track record in showing good judgment in matters concerning all citizens of Newtown. That folks is the key to quality leadership; everyone counts.

I was fortunate to serve on the Legislative Council with Will Rodgers during his first term. He came onto the council at a time where we were experiencing some turnover midterm. From the get-go, Will established himself as a representative who did his homework and listened to the opinions of others. His style hasn’t changed since then, and his leadership of the council has been nonpartisan and inclusive. He is truly one of the brightest people I know, and to think of the risk he took to serve our country in Iraq speaks volumes about his courage and character.

Jeff Capeci is entering his second term, and he proved to be a quick learner in his freshman term on the council. The thing I like about Jeff’s approach is that he listens so well and has consistently used a stream of logic in his decisions when voting. He is not shy to express himself among the group or to change his mind if convinced that another explanation makes better sense.

Will and Jeff have already proven to be good mentors and role models to Connie Widmann, our newest candidate for District 3. People know and respect Connie for her thoughtful style and grasp of the issues facing Newtown. We are really lucky to have her running for office.

As I stated earlier in this letter, quality leadership is understanding that you serve all citizens of Newtown. Nowhere is that commitment more necessary than the Legislative Council.

Sincerely,

Bill Brimmer

Selectman
