Six MV Charges
Police said that at about 12:30 pm on August 19, they stopped motorist Ben J.R. Walker, 45, of Bridgeport near the intersection of South Main Street and Elizabeth Street because the vehicle that he was driving had no front marker plate.
After investigating, police charged Walker with driving while under suspension, driving without automotive insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, improper use of a marker plate, failure to display a front marker plate, and theft of a marker plate by possession.
After processing the case, police released Walker on $250 bail for a September 6 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.
Key Rock DUI
Police said they saw motorist Kim Schoonmaker-Moran, 51, of 59 Queen Street fail to keep to the right while driving on Sugar Street about 7:45 pm August 19, so they stopped her on nearby Key Rock Road to investigate.
After she performed filed sobriety tests, police charged Schoonmaker-Moran with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.
After processing, police released her on $100 bail for an upcoming court appearance.
Slippery Road
About 10 pm August 19, motorist Zackary Moliver, 18, of 1 Floral Heights, who was driving a 1993 Acura Integra sedan, was traveling eastward on Mile Hill Road and then attempting to turn left onto northbound Queen Street, police said.
Due to the speed of the auto and wet road conditions, the auto drove into a guardpost, police said.
Moliver was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
South Main Street
Police report they stopped motorist Adam J. Keller, 19, of Brookfield on South Main Street about 2:13 am August 20 for not having his rear marker plate illuminated.
After investigating, police charged Keller with driving while under suspension, failure to renew a vehicle registration, and failure to illuminate a rear marker plate.
Keller was released on a written promise to appear September 12 in Danbury Superior Court.
Borough DUI
Police said they saw a vehicle that was standing still for about two minutes at a blinking red traffic signal on Queen Street at about 3:45 am on August 20, after which the vehicle turned right onto Church Hill Road and then pulled into a parking lot.
Police said they investigated and then charged motorist Katelyn Letteri, 20, of Stamford with driving under the influence and with driving too slowly.
After posting $250 bail, police released Letteri for a September 12 court appearance.
Garage Burglary
Sometime between August 10 and August 14, someone forced their way into a detached garage on South Main Street in Botsford, and stole power tools including an air impact gun, a welder, a cut-off saw, a chain saw, and hedge trimmers, police said.
The value of the stolen tools is estimated at $3,250. The case constitutes two felonies â third degree larceny and third degree burglary. Police are investigating.
Van Into Wall
Motorist Leonard Byram, 59, of Torrington, who was driving a commercial 1997 Ford van southward on South Main Street behind traffic at about 9:17 am August 15, encountered some stopped southbound traffic, so he swerved to the right to avoid a collision, police said.
In making the maneuver, however, Byram struck some curbing and a wall, police said. Byram was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Mailbox Mischief
On August 19, police reported that seven mailboxes had been stolen and/or damaged in the area near the intersection of Hattertown Road and Poverty Hollow Road.
Later, some of the mailboxes were found and returned to their owners, but some are still missing, police said.
Police ask anyone with information on the mailbox theft and vandalism to contact Patrol Officer Dan Cacace at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Botsford Hill Crash
Motorist Minas Mina, 44, of Garnerville, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape sport-utility vehicle eastward on Botsford Hill Road about 3:45 am August 19, went under the Housatonic Railroad overpass there but did not see the warning sign for a sharp left curve in the road, police said.
The Ford drove straight into an embankment, police said. Mina was not injured. Police verbally warned Mina for traveling unreasonably fast.

Interstate Crash
On eastbound Interstate 84 about 10:17 am August 16, traffic slowed as it approached the Exit 9 off-ramp, state police said.
The brakes failed on a 1993 Ford Taurus sedan driven by Jill Davis, 36, of 77 Alpine Drive, state police said. The Ford then drove into the rear end of a 1998 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Eileen Lingl, 46, of 159 Huntingtown Road, state police said. There were no injuries.
Moving Violations
Police said that at about 5:24 pm August 21, they spotted motorist Tyree Denny, 40, of Ansonia drive through a stop sign at the intersection of Little Brook Lane and Button Shop Road.
Police stopped the vehicle to investigate and then charged Denny with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving while under suspension.
Denny signed a written promise to appear in court on September 8 and was released from custody.
Two Charges
About 9:15 am August 21, police spotted motorist Ronald Gant, 46, of Danbury driving behind another vehicle and honking his horn on westbound Wasserman Way, after which both vehicles entered the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84. Police said they followed both vehicles and saw Gant following the other vehicle at an unsafe distance and swerving behind it, so they stopped both vehicles to investigate.
Police charged Gant with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and with driving while under suspension. After he signed a written promise to appear in court on September 5, police released Gant from custody.
 Youthful Offender
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, a 16-year-old girl from Sandy Hook turned herself in on August 21 and was arrested on charges of fourth degree larceny, conspiracy, and criminal liability for the actions of another person, police said.
The charges stem from multiple incidents of theft from a locker room at Newtown High School, according to police. Police received a complaint on the matter last March. Fourth degree larceny involves the theft of items worth between $500 and $1,000.
After processing the case, police released the girl into the custody of a parent for a September 1 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. The identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes are shielded by state law.

Driving Violations
Police report they stopped motorist Manette Parr, 41, of Danbury on Wasserman Way about 4:47 pm August 22 for driving a vehicle that had no front marker plate.
After investigating, police charged Parr with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
Police held Parr on $5,000 bail for an August 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Currituck Road
Police said that at about 11:50 am August 22, they spotted motorist Carrie Egan, 20, of New Milford exceeding the posted speed limit on Currituck Road, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police charged Egan with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving while under suspension. Police released Egan on a written promise to appear in court on September 7.
Sandy Hook Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident about 7:38 pm August 23 at the intersection of Glen Road, Riverside Road, Washington Avenue, and Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.
The sideswipe collision involved motorist David Rothacker, 17, of 5 Cider Mill Road, who was driving a 2002 Jeep station wagon, and motorist Matthew Spak, 42, of 24 Edgelake Drive, who was driving a 1992 Audi station wagon, police said.
There were no injuries. No enforcement action was taken due to a lack of physical evidence and conflicting accounts of the accident, police said.
Flagpole Collision
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the Main Street flagpole intersection at 5:38 pm August 17.
Police said the accident involved motorist Andrew Heller, 19, of Reservoir Road, who was driving a 2000 Subaru sedan, and motorist Anne Allain, 39, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Dodge sedan. There were no injuries. Police issued Heller a written warning for passing on the right.
