*TREBLEHOOK has a show tonight at The Fireside Inn. The band – now a four-member group with the recent addition of Dave Morgan – will return to the restaurant area of the inn at 123 Main Street South in Newtown for its second show this year. The first show a few months ago was a quietly announced thing and the response, member Andy Spencer (who is still joined by Alan Morgan and Brian Morgan) said recently, was “phenomenal.

“We did this very low-key, and it was just as much a surprise for us as it was for the audience,” Mr Spencer told The Newtown Bee for a story that ran before the band’s show at C.H. Booth Library last month. “We showed up and the folks who have been following us and urging us to play were there. The place was packed and it was great.”

The band had been out of the music scene for a few years, but is fully back into the rehearsing and playing routine. I missed their show at the library in June but sat in for a little while during a recent band rehearsal and the guys are right back into their musical groove. They sound as good as ever, if not better.

Showtime Friday night is 9 pm and there’s no charge to get in.

*Also on the road Friday night is GIA, which will have its first show at MsFitz Café in Southbury. The café is on Oak Tree Road, near Bullet Hill Supply and behind Hines Brothers Garage; telephone 264-4300. This is going to be one of the first shows for the band with new drummer John Deuth.

*Steve Winwood has canceled a show that had been quietly announced for August 7 at The Webster Theatre in Hartford. I’m not sure that tickets even went on sale for that one, but if they did and you have some, contact the Webster’s box office at 860-525-5553.

The date fell between an August 6 show in Bethlehem, Penn., and an August 8 show at Foxwoods Resort Casino. The Hartford Courant reported last week that “Webster folks … were told Winwood didn’t want to play so many shows in a row.” I’m wondering if he was perhaps also worried about playing too many dates too closely in Connecticut.

*The August 24 GEORGE CLINTON show at Toad’s Place, which was a rescheduled event in the first place, has been rescheduled (again?) to October 9; tickets for the August date will of course be honored by the club.
