Flagpole Accident
A two-car accident occurred at the Main Street flagpole at 9:17 am August 15.
Motorist Christopher Hoelck, 39, of Danbury was driving a 2002 Honda Civic southward on Main Street, as motorist Annamarie Rosenberg, 51, of 72 Great Hill Road was driving a 1999 Nissan Altima northward there, police said.
As the Nissan was attempting to make a left turn onto West Street, the Honda was passing several southbound vehicles on the right; the Nissan and Honda then collided, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to check Rosenberg for injuries, but she refused treatment, police said.
Police issued Hoelck a written warning for passing on the right.
MV Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, motorist Stephen Lang, 56, of Bridgeport turned himself over to police August 14 and was charged with evading responsibility and driving under suspension in connection with a July 12 motor vehicle accident at the Hawleyville post office. Police said Lang left the scene of that accident. Police released Lang on a $100 bond for an August 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Narcotics
Police said they received a report that a motorist was driving an Isuzu Rodeo sport utility vehicle erratically on Swamp Road in Botsford at about 6:30 pm August 15.
Police added that they then received another report that the Isuzu had gone off the road.
Police said they went to the scene and investigated, charging motorist Stewart Peterson, 29, of Danbury with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to check Peterson, but made no transport, police said.
Police released Peterson on a $500 bond for a September 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
South Main Crash
Motorist Dale Anderson, 38, of 18 Bridle Path Trail, who was driving a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner southward on South Main Street, near Greenbriar Lane, about 3:30 pm August 10, stopped for traffic, police said.
Southbound motorist Donna Lee, 45, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1995 Nissan Altima, then drove into the rear end of the Toyota, police said. The Toyota carried three passengers.
There were no injuries. Police issued Lee an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
DUI Charge
State police said they saw motorist Megan O. Mathews, 18, of 10 Megans Circle driving erratically on Mile Hill Road, near the commuter parking at Exit 11 of Interstate 84 at about 1:15 am August 17.
State police said they stopped Mathews and gave her field sobriety tests, which she failed. State police charged Mathews with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the established lane.
State police released Mathews on a $500 nonsurety bond for a September 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Exit 9 Accident
State police report that motorist Charles Budd, 56, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer, was stopped on eastbound Interstate 84âs eastbound Exit 9 off-ramp about 2:30 pm August 16.
A 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Michael McNamara, 24, of 6 Driftway Drive was stopped behind the Ford, state police said.
The Ford then moved forward and the Toyota struck it from behind, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said McNamara made an unsafe movement, was driving an unregistered vehicle, and had an expired automotive insurance card.
Moving Violations
Police report they charged motorist Joseph Cusimano, 26, of Meriden with four moving violations on August 18. Police said that after investigating, they charged Cusimano with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license, misuse of marker plates, and driving without automotive insurance.
After booking Cusimano on the charges, police released him on a $200 bond for an August 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Route 34 Accident
Motorist Anthony Cologera, 18, of Stamford was driving a 1995 Ford Thunderbird eastward on Route 34 and was negotiating a left curve in the road at about 11:58 pm August 16, when he lost control of the auto, went off the right side of the road, and knocked down three guardposts, police said.
There were two teenage passengers in the auto. Police said there were no injuries. Police issued Cologera an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
Multiple Charges
Police report they were dispatched to investigate a one-car accident on High Rock Road about 5:25 pm August 20. Police said that when they arrived, the driver was not at the scene of the crash. Police said they later found the driver, George Anderson, 27, of Danbury at the Blue Colony Diner on Church Hill Road.
Police charged Anderson with evading responsibility, failure to have automotive insurance, illegal possession of Xanax, and tampering with evidence.
Police held Anderson on $1,000 bail for an August 21 court appearance.
Warrant
Newtown police said they traveled to the Groton Police Department on the night of August 20 and served an arrest warrant against Reed A. Chaber, 42, of Groton on a charge of violation of probation in connection with a past incident.
Newtown police held Chaber on a $10,000 bond for an August 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Berkshire Road Crash
Motorist Robert J. Rogers, III, 19, of Seymour was driving a 1989 Dodge Daytona eastward on Berkshire Road about 12:20 pm August 19, when he fell asleep at the wheel, crossed into the westbound lane, and then hit several guard posts and a mailbox at 309 Berkshire Road, police said.
The auto came to rest in a wooded area. There was one passenger in the car. There were no injuries, police said.
Police charged Rogers with misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without automotive insurance, and making a restricted turn. Police released him on a $100 bond for a September 2 court appearance.
