Why No Scholarship Ball?
Why No Scholarship Ball?
To the Editor:
The Newtown Scholarship Association will not be hosting their 67th Annual Ball this winter. As you may know, last winterâs ball was a wonderful success. The ball was held in February and we danced to the marvelous music of The Third Shift. The net profit on this fundraiser was over $20,000. Sincere thanks to all of you who helped to make the ball such a great success.
So, after such a profitable and fun party, why isnât Newtown Scholarship hosting a ball this winter? Good question. Hereâs the answer: This year, the Tercentennial Committee will be hosting a ball on February 5. The Newtown Scholarship Association wants to support the Tercentennial Committee, rather than compete with it.
We, at Newtown Scholarship, hope that you will put your dancing shoes on and get out to The Fireside Inn on February 5, 2005, and attend The Tercentennial Ball. Guests will dance to the marvelous music of The Third Shift. Cocktails are at 7 pm, dinner is at 8 pm. Profits from the Tercentennial Ball will support a yearlong celebration of Newtown and its fantastic 300-year history.
As for Newtown Scholarship, we will send out our annual fund drive letter in the spring. Perhaps you will be able to help us continue to provide financial aid for higher education to promising students who reside in Newtown. In 1935, a single scholarship of $50 was awarded. Now, more than 60 scholarships totaling over $150,000 are awarded annually.
Thank you for your support. Hope to see you at the Tercentennial Ball on February 5.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Murtha
