NHS Girlsâ Tennis Team Highlights
Newtown High Schoolâs girlsâ tennis team closed out the regular season with an 11-4 overall record following a 4-3 loss to Joel Barlow of Redding on May 11 and a 5-2 win over Masuk of Monroe on May 16.
Against Barlow, Newtown got wins at fourth singles, as Mia Terracino defeated Ali Kudej 6-6, 6-3, and at first and second doubles. The top doubles team of Meghan Loose and Julia Frattaroli pulled out a three-setter against Mel Reyes and Adriana Maconochie, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. The No. 2 tandem of Sara Benson and Stephanie Roman also prevailed in a three-set battle, topping Alyssa Lyon and Sarah McCain, 6-7, 7-5, 6-0.
Newtown and Masuk played eight game pro sets and Newtown earned two singles wins and a three doubles triumphs. At No. 1 singles, Newtownâs Lauren Frazzetta doubled up Mollie Mendes, 8-4, and at No. 4 singles, Terracino defeated Demi Skenderis, 8-3. In doubles play, Loose and Frattaroli defeated Lauren Hurley and Mary Lacey, 8-1; Benson and Roman blanked Taylor Johnston and Erin Mahoney, 8-0; and Maggie Kost and Ayesha Dholakia topped Madison Groenings and Divie Glaser, 8-4.
The South-West Conference Tournament was scheduled to get underway on Thursday (after The Bee went to press).
