ETH Seats: The Thermometer Moves Up
The Newtown Lions Clubâs drive to replace all 411 main floor seats in Edmond Town Hall moves closer to the goal each week.
So far 147 seats have been sold at $300 each; the sum includes the cost of each new seat, preparation of the floor underneath, and a plaque on the back of the chair identifying the donor.
Besides the chairs paid for by donors, there have been donations of cash by individuals and businesses, and from fundraisers by the Newtown Junior Womenâs Club, the Friends of Music, the Lions Club, and other groups. The Lions need to raise a total of $150,000 to complete the project; total money from the sale of seats and additional contributions so far is $64,267 or 42 percent of the goal.
âThe donor can dedicate the chair to his family, friends, an outstanding Newtowner, a company, or perhaps even write a bit of poetry on the plaque,â said Gordon Williams, chairman of the project.
All donations, big and small, are welcome, he said.
To donate, checks should be made out to the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers with a note in the memo line that it is for the âseats project.â Checks should be sent to the Newtown Lions Club, attn Gordon Williams, at PO Box 218, Newtown, 06470. Anyone who has questions about the project should call Mr Williams at 426-6443.
