Food Pantries Are Grateful

To the Editor,

On Saturday the annual Postal Workers Food Drive was a beehive of activity. It all began at ten o’clock in the morning with the arrival of our faithful drivers from Christ the King Lutheran Church. They never fail us. Dunkin Donuts provided the coffee and donuts to fuel their efforts. A route was assigned and by the time they returned to the Post Office their trunks were filled to overflowing. There they were met by a group of energetic and organized volunteers who spent hours emptying countless bags, and sorting and packing the food into donated boxes from Pitney Bowes. We were fed all day by delicious pizzas that arrived from Pizza Palace, George’s Pizza, My Place, and the Italian Pavilion. Of course, we held taste tests which meant we had to sample them all. By 6:30 that evening all the postal workers had returned and emptied the backs of their trucks. The storage stack was filled to the brim with boxes of food and the weary volunteers headed home. As a result of this tremendous effort both the Salvation Army Food Pantry and the FAITH Food Pantry will be well stocked throughout the summer.

Thank you to all the residents who donated food, to all the local businesses who donated goods, to all our wonderful volunteers, and to all the postal workers, but especially to Rob Frangione. His energy and enthusiasm are the driving force of this local effort.

Sincerely,

Nancy Taylor, FAITH Food Pantry
