To the Editor:

From the first meeting after the July caucus, the Newtown Democrats decided to approach this campaign in a positive way. We decided to highlight all that our democratic leadership has accomplished (Feel free to view this under “Successes, Visions, and Solutions” at www.thenewtowndemocrats.com) as well as share about our outstanding candidates.

I have to say that for the most part this task of running a positive campaign has been easy. After all, we have a lot to go on. Herb Rosenthal and Joe Bojnowski are quite the “dynamic duo” and their hard work has lead to great success for Newtown. I am not going to go into all the details, because they are available at www.thenewtowndemocrats.com, but I think the important thing to point out is their ability to reach every group in the community. They have kept the town side of the budget as low as possible in order to allow for increases on the education side. They have found space for ball fields and recreation, while still preserving open space. They have increased tax relief to seniors, and economic development is on the rise as well. The point is, to run a positive campaign when there is so much positive to share, is easy.

It isn’t just Herb and Joe. The democratic ticket as a whole is a perfect example of this diversity. Our Legislative Council, Board of Education, and all other candidates are a mix of fresh faces and experience. Their jobs provide varied experiences that are a meaningful contribution to the boards on which they hope to serve. In addition, their experiences in various capacities in Newtown, with their families, through elected or volunteer positions or other organizations, bring a plethora of viewpoints. Individually they each have something to offer to Newtown, but as a whole they are a microcosm of the Newtown community.

Certainly, at times, the Democrats have responded to mistruths and inaccuracies in our letters. Perhaps these came across as negative or attacking, but in reality it is an attempt to inform Newtown’s voters. Please take the time to visit our website, and learn more about the tremendous slate we have put together. I hope you will join me in supporting the Rosenthal/Bojnowski team this year; a team who is sure to keep Newtown on the continued path to success.
