Berkshire Motors captured the 2001 men’s basketball title at the Newtown Health & Fitness Club two weeks ago with a 52-49 win over The Inn at Newtown.

The sixth seed in the eight-team playoffs, Berkshire Motors won all three of its postseason games in close fashion. The championship game was no exception as The Inn got off a last-second three-point attempt, which bounced off the rim and out.

In the finals, Berkshire’s Kris Nawrocki scored 24 points, Pete Antonopolis scored 12 and Jamie Maguire had nine. Mark Svanda was the top rebounder.

For The Inn, which rolled to the finals as the fourth seed, Steve Bigham scored 19 points, Jim Bowers hit for 12 and Paul Carpenter added nine.
