Thomas F. Groonell

Thomas F. Groonell, 70, of Newtown died May 14 in Danbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Beverly Behm Groonell.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., he was a Fairfield resident most of his life before moving to Newtown eight years ago.

He was a graduate of Fairfield Prep, Fairfield University, and received his MBA from New York University. Mr Groonell spent his entire career with AT&T as an economist. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and was an avid sailor.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his loving children, Lisa G. Grace and her husband Peter of Newtown, Peter F. Groonell of Newtown, Thomas J. Groonell of Charleston, S.C., Timothy R. Groonell of Denver, Colo.; his sister Sheila Groonell and her husband Robert Lannon; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, Michael, and Jack Grace, and Hannah Groonell.

Funeral services were held May 18 in Notre Dame of Easton Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in Newtown Village Cemetery.
