Newtown 1, Prospect 0 â Kate Bowen fired a perfect game, leading the Hawks to a 1-0 win over Prospect. Bowen also had a hit, one of two, while Christine Beck, Laura Newberry, Rachel Ruiz, Ally Modzelewski and Nicole Elias played superbly in the infield. Ashley Kuligowski was solid behind the dish and Marley Koschel made two nice catches in rightfield. Rachel Ruiz scored the lone run on a wild pitch and Kaitlin Marsden collected the only other hit in the game.
Newtown 9, Prospect 5 â Ally Modzelewski pitched well and earned the victory as Newtown defeated Prospect in the night cap of the double header. Emily Krewson singled and tripled and drove in two runs to spark the offense as Alex Caracciolo and Kailtlin Marsden also collected hits for the Hawks.
Newtown 2, Beacon Falls 0 â Newtown handed previously undefeated Beacon Falls its first loss of the season as Kate Bowen pitched well and struck out nine to secure the shut out. Newtown scored its first run as Bowen led off with a single and was later driven in by Kaitlin Cosgroveâs sacrifice fly. In the second inning, Ally Modzelewski scored the second run as she led off with a walk , moved to second on a single by Christine Beck and was later scored by an infield hit by Nicole Elias. Laura Newberry collected two hits for the Hawks.
Beacon Falls 9, Newtown 8 â Kaitlin Cosgrove crushed two doubles while Ally Modzelewski and Rachael Ruiz each had two hits but the Hawks lost a heartbreaker. Emily Krewson and Kaitlin Marsden also ripped singles for the Hawks.
Newtown 4, Watertown Rapids 0 â Newtown improved to 4-2 in the Central Valley Fastpitch League and avenged an early season loss to the Rapids. Kate Bowen went the distance, scattering three hits and striking out eight. Once again the defense was superb as third baseman Christine Beck and shortstop Laura Newberry played errorless ball and made numerous fine plays. Alert catcher Ashley Kuligowski threw out the only Watertown runner who attempted to steal with a perfect throw to Newberry. Marley Koschel was the offensive standout collecting 3 RBIs on the night as she drove in Newberry and Beck in the second inning with a double and then again drove in Newberry with a sacrifice fly in the 6th. Rachael Ruiz smacked a double and a single to lead Newtown to victory.

Newtown 14, Redding 4 â The Hawks improved to 3-0 as Colleen Cunningham, Emma Herring, Ashley Cirone and Taylor Johnson combined on a strong pitching performance. Newtown scored nine runs in the first inning before making an out. Jessica Jowdy threw out two players at first base from right field and made a circus catch to rob Redding of a home run. Megan Gibbons had three hits, while Natalie Dunn and Colleen Cunningham each had a double and a single. Erin Begg chipped in with three runs.

Brookfield 13, Newtown 8 â Jessica Gibbons, Kimmy Gates and Monica Macchiarulo each had hits for the Hawks in a loss to Brookfield. Kelly OâSullivan made a tremendous catch in the outfield and Melanie Rotante was stellar behind the plate, throwing out a runner trying to steal second.
Newtown 8, Ridgefield 6 â Trailing 6-2 entering the final inning, the Hawks staged a furious comeback. Taylor Brady, Maggie Kennedy and Jessica Gibbons each singled to load the bases and then Monica Macchiarulo crushed a three-run triple to bring the locals to within one. Natalie Galante came through with an RBI single to tie the score and later stole home with the winning run. Karlie Kuligowski walked and also ended up stealing home with an insurance run.
