Nereyda âEidaâ Torres, 81, of Bridgeport, devoted wife of the late Juan Torres, died February 22 at St Vincentâs Medical Center.
Many beautiful memories will be cherished by her family including four children: Martha Torres of Newtown, John Torres and his wife, LouAnn, of Bridgeport, Rick Torres and his wife, Michele, of Bridgeport, and Alejandro Torres of Cuba; 19 grandchildren including, Jonathan, Stephanie, and Blake Torres, John, Alex, Michael, Kaitlyn, and Gabriella Torres, Brenda Levinsky and June Palatiello; two brothers, Juan and Hugo Gurri, both of Cuba; one sister-in-law, Gori DâAmico, of Meriden; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by two children, Juan Torres and Berta DeMarcos and three brothers, Favio, Fifo, and Maso Gurri.
Born in Cuba, Mrs Torres first came to the United States in 1956. She returned to Cuba with her family, staying for several years before settling in Bridgeport in 1967.
She was a retired union seamstress, working for local clothing factories, and was a member of the ILG-WU. Mrs Torres loved her family. As a mother and grandmother, she selflessly cared for, and was supportive to, her family in so many ways.
Funeral services were held February 26 in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, Fairfield Center, with Father Joseph Malloy officiating. Interment followed in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
