Thanks To Charter Supporters

To the Editor:

As the chairman of the former Charter Revision Commission, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the commission for their dedication and hard work which enabled the voters of Newtown to make informed decisions on Election Day. In addition, I would particularly like to thank Dennis Dougherty, Betty Lincoln, and Mike Snyder for their support throughout the charter revision process, particularly in the latter stages when we worked hard to communicate the charter revision issues to the voters.

Most important, the voters of Newtown should be commended for the votes they cast on Election Day for the charter questions. I believe their decision to include an independent Board of Finance in the management of the financial affairs of Newtown will allow for a more effective budget process and an enhanced effort toward financial planning.

I am confident that the First Selectman and the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Education, and the Legislative Council will work closely with the Board of Finance to ensure that the people of Newtown receive the maximum benefit from this realignment of our town government.
