Community Invited To Sign
A Beam At The 5/6 School
By Tanjua Damon
There will be a special beam erected at the 5/6 school just after the Thanksgiving holiday to leave a permanent mark in its internal structure, by those who helped make the school possible and by the students who will be initially housed in it when it opens in January 2003.
A Topping Off Ceremony is planned for Tuesday, November 27, at 11:45 am, at which the special steel beam will be raised and put it into place at the ceremony.
Before the beam is raised, invited guests at the Topping Off Ceremony â school board members, town officials, Public Building and Site Commission members, PTA presidents, members of the Space Needs Committee, students representation from the fourth and fifth grades, teachers and other community members â will sign have an opportunity to sign it.
Since it is impossible to have the beam brought from school to school to have students who would like to sign the beam do so, the beam will be available at the 5/6 school site for the rest of the community to sign if they choose to do so. Anyone wishing to sign it can on Monday, November 26, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm in front of the construction site at Wasserman Way and Trades Lane. It will be between the construction trailer and the street. The beam will be marked by flags. Be sure to park on Trades Lane when going to sign the steel beam.
