'Conversations' With Georgia Sheron
âConversationsâ With Georgia Sheron
WOODBURY â Beaux Arts Gallery will showcase black and white photographs by Georgia Sheron, a master photographer of Oakville. âConversationâsâ is on view through November 27. The gallery will host an artistâs opening reception Saturday, October 23, from 4 to 6 pm.
Ms Sheron writes: âConversations change and shape our lives everyday ⦠listening is not necessarily eavesdropping, it can be a form of anthropology.â
The use of photography in conjunction with conversation has a history which is interesting as well as important. Margaret Mead and her husband, Gregory Bateson, used still as well as moving photography in conjunction with their observations of and conversations with tribal peoples to revolutionize the methods of anthropology in the 1930s.
The photographer Duane Michaels has also used story lines to accompany his photographs, which adds another dimension to the sequence of his photos.
The conversations which accompany Ms Sheronâs photographs are âreal, imagined or recovered.â Ms Sheron has created her exhibit to include conversations in the present, the past and the future. The exhibit of photographs and text inspires viewers to not only see but to listen to conversations to learn more about themselves and others.
Georgia Sheron enjoys a career as fine art photographer, photojournalist and portrait photographer. She earned her master of photography certificate from the Professional Photographers Association in 1996. Her work has been published many times in magazine and newspaper format and her exhibits have been numerous throughout the country.
