Kenneth V. Malsch

Kenneth V. Malsch, 89, of Newtown, formerly of Fairfield, died on Tuesday, May 10.

He was born in Waterbury in 1915, son of the late Walter and Julia (Martin) Malsch. He was the fourth of five children: Irving Malsch, Maureen Finnegan, Walter Malsch (all deceased). and Clara Medford of Wallingford.

He served in the US Marine Corps from September 1941 to 1945 in the Guadalcanal campaign.

Ken married Eileen Murphy in December 1944, and was a loving and devoted husband for 61 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Karen and Russell Banks of Newtown, Ken and Bonnie Malsch of Georgetown, Maine, Julie and Bill Buck of Seattle, Wash., Eileen and Mark Peterson of Freeport, Maine, and Maureen and Joe Dooley of Durham. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Michael Malsch.

Mr Malsch was a loving and doting grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Maggie and Samantha Malsch, Catherine and Philip Buck, Amy and Scott Peterson, and Patrick and Maureen Dooley. He enjoyed family gatherings where he spent time cooking over his grill in all kinds of weather. He was known as a good friend, “a nice guy to talk to,” and a true patriot. Semper Fi.

Mr Malsch graduated from Boston College in 1950. He was employed by the Bridgeport Brass Company as vice president in charge of sales, retiring in 1960 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Salesman and Purchasing Agents Association of Bridgeport.

Upon retirement, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and enlarging his circle of friends.

He was active in the DAV Chapter in Fairfield serving as chaplain for many years. He was involved in his parish, St Pius X of Fairfield, where he often greeted people as an usher at the 9 am mass. He was a member of the Gaelic American Club of Fairfield and former member of the Patterson Club, Smith Richardson Club, and the Golf Club of Aspetuck.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 16, at 11:30 am, from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at St Rose of Lima Church at noon for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.
