Motorcycle Ride Kicked It

To the Editor:

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the more than 1,000 individuals from across Fairfield County who took part in the American Cancer Society’s Sixth Annual Kick It Motorcycle Ride on September 21.

This year’s event was one of the best, with an estimated 850 motorcycles pushing off from Danbury Fair Mall and riding 40 miles to Indian Well State Park in Shelton to raise fund for cancer research, patient support, and education, as well as raising cancer awareness. I am proud to say that this year’s event broke all previous fundraising records with nearly $50,000 raised.

The ride was truly a celebration of the close and caring nature of the motorcycle community. At the Cancer Survivor Road Rally breakfast before the ride, 50 area cancer survivors came together to share their stories and celebrate their determined spirit. We were also proud to have Virginia Carris of Monroe and her Family of Fighters team led the ride in memory of Sue Carris, who passed away just days before the ride.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible if not for the tireless efforts of the Kick It volunteer committee, Jackie and Rich Basher who chaired this year’s ride, and John and Emily Jackson, Michael and Michele Cervone, Debbie Basher, Janet Uhlig, David Engle, Tony DeSarli, Chris Kinsley, Michael Santora, Vic Pishal, Susan and Dan Pressler. I’d also like to thank all the sponsors who donated support and services to the ride, including: Alstom Power, Coffee Connection, Outback Steakhouse of Shelton, Haymond Law Firm, Four Points Sheraton, Bocchino Limousine Service, Napoli Deli, Prestige Industrial Finishing, Inc, Jeremiah’s Grille & Café, Stepney Wine & Liquor, i95 FM, Breezy Point Garage, Inc, Carquest, Crown Point Associates, Connecticut Cruise News, Marcus Dairy, Danbury Fair Mall, The Hollister Thompson Band, Riverdale Diner, TNT Plowing & Recycling LLC, All American Fat & Skinny Cycles LLC, Ascott Club, Breezy Point Garage, Inc, Connecticut Waste Transfer, Gun & Safes Unlimited, Riverdale Diner, and White Hill Landscaping & Tree Service.

I look forward to another amazing event next year and encourage interested individuals to visit www.cancer.org/kickit for more information and other events surrounding this unique and inspirational event.
