Beards Are In For The Tercentennial
Beards Are In For The Tercentennial
The Newtown Congregational Church Menâs Club is sponsoring a beard-growing contest for the townâ[s tercentennial. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: full beard, mustache, and goatee.
âPeriodically our American male ancestors were heavily hirsute and the tercentennial year is a year to resurrect that look, or so the club feels,â said Gordon Williams, Menâs Club member.
The contest begins on Monday, January 3. On that day and on Tuesday, January 4, between 4 pm and 8 pm, men who wish to enter must check in at the C.H. Booth Library circulation desk. An entry fee of $5 will be charged. The money will be donated to a tercentennial activity. All entrants must appear clean shaven.
The contest will close in mid-March. Naser Behluli, a barber and stylist whose shop is located at the flagpole, will be the judge. He will give the first, second, and third-prize winners in each category a free haircut. In addition to free haircuts, the prizes will include grooming materials.
âThe beardâs the thing for the tercentennial, so jump aboard and have some fun,â Mr Williams said.
