Voice Seminar Set For July 12-13

“The Breathing Voice,” an intensive seminar for people who use their voice professionally, will be presented Friday, July 12, from 6 until 10 pm, and Saturday, July 13, from 9 until 6 pm at the Newtown Congregational Church.

Julie Georgis, a native of Connecticut who resides in Germany, will be presenting the workshop. She has worked in theater, television, and radio and is a graduate of the Breath, Speech, and Voice School in Germany. Since 1995 she has worked as a speech pathologist and as a voice and speech coach for radio and television journalists.

Preregistration is necessary. The cost is $110, and includes lunch and snacks. For more information, call Maria Barresi at 426-9102. Preregistration and $50 is needed this week, to Ms Barresi with Attn: Julie Georgis, 14 Chimney Swift Drive, Sandy Hook, CT 06482.

The workshop will work on muscle tone and posture/stance in relation to the natural breath rhythm, explore the relationship that breath, speech, and voice have upon each other, utilize techniques on diverse texts in partner-exercises and in front of the group, gain sensitivity in auditory awareness and communication skills, learn to “recharge your batteries” with “Five Ways of Rejuvenation,” and learn rules for voice hygiene.

Participants are asked to bring a gym or yoga mat, texts to use professionally along with favorite literature, and songs. They should wear comfortable, loose clothing, warm socks, and flat shoes with rubber soles.
