Northeastern University recognized two local students who distinguished themselves academically during the course of the school year. Newtown resident Katherine Bouteiller, who is majoring in science, and Sandy Hook resident John Smith were named to the 2002 spring semester deanâs list.
Paul Dolzall, son of Gary and Donnette Dolzall of Newtown, has been named to the deanâs list at Rochester Institute of Technology. Mr Dolzall finished his freshman year at the university where he is studying film production.

Rachel Walker, daughter of Randy and Robin Walker of Newtown, graduated from the University of Virginia on May 19 with a Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and English. She has joined the Peace Corps as an HIV/AIDS Health Educator and will begin a two-year assignment to Mali, Africa, in August. She is a 1998 graduate of Newtown High School.
Meghan Elizabeth Walcott of Newtown was named to the deanâs list at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for the spring 2002 semester.

Heather Tanner, daughter of Rob and Melanie Tanner of Sandy Hook, has been named to the deanâs list at The University of New Hampshire for the 2002 spring semester. Ms Tanner is a junior psychology major and a 2000 graduate of Newtown High School.
Jeffrey J. Corbeil, a 2001 graduate of Newtown High School, completed his freshman year at Cornell University where he is majoring in applied engineering physics in the School of Engineering. He achieved deanâs list both semesters of his freshman year.
Central Connecticut State University announced several local students who were placed on the deanâs list for their academic achievements. Brea Passero and Alicia Thomas of Newtown and Doreen Shevlin of Sandy Hook were named.

Sarah Kiernan, PT, of Newtown recently received the Mary McMillian Scholarship Award from the American Physical Therapy Association. Ms Kiernan received the award for her academic performance at the University of Connecticut where she recently graduated with her Masterâs degree in physical therapy.

The ceremony, which marked Northeasternâs 100th commencement, some 3,700 students who received Associateâs, Bachelorâs, Masterâs and Doctoral degrees from the century-old institution: Newtown â Matthew K. Schieffer earned a Bachelor of Science in international business, Reed Hunt Findlay earned a Bachelor of Science, and Jeffrey P. Neary earned a Bachelor of Science; Sandy Hook â Kevin M. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration, John R. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration, Melanie A. Tyrrell earned a Bachelor of Arts.
Eric Young of Newtown received his Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
