Free Klezmer Concert At Temple Sholom
NEW MILFORD â Nefresh, a widely acclaimed klezmer band, will perform in concert at Temple Sholom on Sunday, July 28, at 6:30 pm. The program is free to the public courtesy of the Rena Cohen Berner Memorial Fund For Jewish Culture and Vital Issues. Persons of all faiths, creeds and ethnic background are welcome.
Nefesh, under the direction of Alan Falk of Oxford, is a diversified group of musicians from a variety of musical backgrounds ranging from rock and folk to classical orchestras and choral societies. Members perform on a variety of instruments from accordion, keyboards and dulcimer to drums, guitar, mandolin, trombone, percussion and clarinet.
Nefesh is the Hebrew word for soul, which reflects the lively spirit and exuberance the band brings to audiences, who often get up and dance during the performances.
The groupâs style and repertoire encompasses emotions from ancient Jewish melodies of the shtetels of Eastern Europe to Yiddish theater, as well as original compositions, Israeli, Yemenite and Oriental music to poignant and humorous Yiddish classic.
Temple Sholom is on Route 7 in New Milford. Contact Marilyn Lieff at 860-354-5408 for additional information.
