Rock Ridge Country Club hosted its three-day Member/Guest Tournament last weekend – complete with closest to the pin, longest drive, and putting contests.

The big winner – at least, moneywise – was Jared Tendler, a graduate and former captain of the Newtown High School golf team, who won the putting contest and the $500 first prize. But when it comes to the actual golf, it was John Piorkowski and Glen Andrews who captured the First Flight championship over Brian Burke and Tom Rodel.

John O’Conner and Allen Jezouit, 3. Mike Elliott and Matt Gifford. THIRD FLIGHT – 1. Gary Tamburri and Chris Daley, 2. Joe Golden and Lee Seward, 3. Jim Dolan and Ken Freeston. FOURTH FLIGHT – 1. Len Calbo and Lenny Calbo, 2. Tony DiPerrio and Mike DiPerrio, 3. Brian Flood and Mike Brennan. FIFTH FLIGHT – 1. Ed Samuels and Jonathan Samuels, 2. Mike Boyle and Dave Thompson, 3. Marty Gersten and John Brouwer.

In other events –

Sam Sirkin and Bob Smith won the closest team to the pin on the par 3, 9th hole on Friday with a shot that dropped just 3 feet, 2 inches from the cup (that earned them $25 each). On the par 3, 14th hole, Mike Elliot and Matt Gifford won the closest team to the pin with a shot just 9 feet, 4 inches from the stick. And Tendler, along with his father, Bob, won the longest team drive on the par-5, 8th hole (earned them $25 apiece).

Mike Portnoy and Rich Marks won the closest team to the pin on the par 3, 9th hole on Saturday with a shot just 3 feet, 10 inches from the stick. On the par 3, 14th hole, Jack Duffy and Howie Busse won the closest team to the pin (and the $25 prize).

Dave Metzgar and Andy Lecher qualified in that contest by making 4-of-6 putts and won $50 for their efforts.
