TOYS SOLDIERS ON PARADE AT CHESTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

CBS/JAR SET 11/20 #525787

WEST CHESTER, PENN. — A new exhibit at the Chester County Historical Society, “Toy Soldiers on Parade,” is on display through February 1. The exhibition stars armies of early Twentieth Century toy soldiers in dramatic sequences. CCHS has partnered with Target Stores, which provided a special grant in support of the exhibit.

Toy collector Stewart Taylor of Marshallton is the guest curator for “Toy Soldiers on Parade.” Pulling from his own collection of more than 2,200 childhood toys, Taylor brings his own childhood to life in the exhibit. “I love seeing adult visitors enjoy the collection, especially watching the way the collection brings back happy childhood memories to people who once played with the very same toys.”

Displays of Taylor’s collection have exhibited at the Delaware Art Museum, the headquarters of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in Philadelphia and the San Francisco International Airport.

Also at CCHS, 225 North High Street, The Greens Sale will run December 5-7. It is a opportunity for the community to bring the outdoors in and decorate their homes for the holidays. Fresh wreaths, centerpieces, swags, door decorations, ornaments and more will be available for purchase. Also available are greens and holly for the do-it-yourself wreathmaker.

The talk “Christmas in Pennsylvania” will be given on December 11 at noon. Learn a little holiday history in this informal lecture and discussion with Don Yoder, professor of Folklife Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. This lunchtime program will focus on the Christmas traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch and the folk culture surrounding it. Admission: $3 (free for CCHS members).
