Holocaust Group Marks Anniversary
Holocaust Group Marks Anniversary
SOUTHBURY â In 1998, a small group of children of Holocaust survivors got together at the Jewish Federation office to talk about their parentsâ stories and what it was like for them to grow up as the children of survivors.
After meeting together for a few times, the group decided that it wanted to expand to include survivors so that the two generations could talk, listen, and learn from one another. For the past five years, Brownstein Jewish Family Service has been sponsoring the Holocaust Survivors and Second Generation Group, which meets monthly on a Sunday morning to share stories, hear survivors speak, help those apply for reparations and educate the public on the Holocaust. Â
The group currently includes almost 100 members, equally split between survivors and adult children. Dozens of other people from the greater Waterbury community have attended special programs several times each year when survivors or educators speak about the Holocaust.
The next meeting of the group will be on Sunday, April 6, at 10 am, in the library of the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North. The focus of this meeting will be on the second generations, who are invited to lead the discussions for the day.
To RSVP for this meeting, contact Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service program director at 267-3177, extension 105.                                                                                                Â
