Registrations for the 2003 Bertram Stroock Memorial Tournament and the 2003 Victor Coopersmith Cup – both presented by the Newtown Tennis Association – are being accepted right now. Entries close on August 14 for the Stroock and August 15 for the Coopersmith Cup.

The tournaments are open only to Newtown residents.

For the Stroock Tournament, there will be Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Singles, Men’s 55 Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles divisions. Fees will be $10 for one event, $15 for two events, and $20 for three events. Players will arrange their own matches through August, with the semi-final and final round matches slated for Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31, at Dickinson Park.

If there are enough entries, consolation rounds will be held for those who lose their first matches.

To enter, send a sheet with your name, address, home and work numbers (and the same information for your doubles partners, if any) to The Newtown Tennis Association, P.O. Box 3432, Newtown, CT, 06470. And don’t forget the check made out to The Newtown Tennis Association.

For the Coopersmith Cup (also known as the NTA Junior Championships), sponsored by the Richard Coopersmith Family, the competition is open to all Newtown boys and girls. Their age groups (10 and under, 14 and under, 18 and under) will be determined by their age as of August 18, 2003. Round robin matches will begin at 9 am at Dickinson Park on August 18 (U10), August 19 (U14) and August 20 (U18). Rain dates will be August 21 and 22. The final round matches are slated for Sunday, August 31, at Dickinson Park.

Cost is $5 per player, per event (maximum two events per player).
