Christian, Jewish, Muslim Leaders     To Meet At SHU

 FAIRFIELD — The Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding (CCJU) of Sacred Heart University is sponsoring a timely symposium, “Pathways to Peace in the Abrahamic Faiths?” The conference, April 28–30, is part of CCJU’s ongoing work to promote peace through dialogue and understanding and, will take place on the university’’s main campus, 5151 Park Avenue.  In addition to the general sessions, two events will be open to the public. There is no charge for admission.

 On Monday, April 28, at 7:30 pm, the Annual CCJU Lecture will be given by Archbishop Michael L. Fitzgerald, president of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. The archbishop’s topic is “The Necessity of Interreligious Dialogue.” His address will take place in the Mahogany Room, in the university’s Main Academic Center.

 On Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 pm, Imam W. Deen Mohammed, leader of the American Muslim Society, with headquarters in Chicago, will deliver a special lecture on the topic, “Building Bridges of Peace and Justice.” This lecture will be held in the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts Theatre.

 “Pathways to Peace in the Abrahamic Faiths?” will gather 30–40 scholars and religious leaders to discuss ways in which Jews, Christians, and Muslims can contribute more meaningfully to the work of peace. The forum is designed to present an opportunity for members of each religion to discuss the core values of peacemaking inherent in his or her religious tradition.
