The Community Comes Through

To the Editor:

I would like to thank the community for the wonderful response to our collection of winter outerwear and food for Newtown Social Services. It was great to see the generosity of our community. I would also like to thank our bus drivers who gave up their time the weekend before Christmas. So thank you to Kristie Genc, Kate Maki, Joan Baumgart, Maryellen Sideleau, Violet Mayo, Gary Wheeler, Marsha Moskowitz, James Tomassetti, Kathy Smith, Phyllis Page, and Denise Buckley.

Unfortunately, this is going to be a tough winter for many of those that use the food pantry. Fuel assistance has been reduced by the government. So for many people in Newtown last year’s choice between medicine and food is now going to be medicine, food, or heat. I hope to have more of these events because we Newtowners need to stick together and help each other.

I remember a saying, “There but for the grace of God, go I.”
