Pro-War Is Not The Opposite

A few words to Mr Luzzi, (Letter Hive, “Pro-Peace Activists Are Pro-Troops,” April 11, 2003) sadly you are rationalizing when you say, “most if not all ‘pro-peace’ activists are also ‘pro-troops.’” It is a very small percentage of “pro-peace” activists that even come close to being called “pro-troops.”

Those that do are called pacifists. They are a vital part of our society and those of us who are willing or able to confront evil will always stand between them and it. We will always listen to their points and utilize that in our pursuit to protect the innocent. They give us balance, conscience, and humility. But those are not the voices of the “pro-peace” activists.

The so-called peace activists who have hidden agendas can easily be identified by their aggressive attempts to stop military action and by their vicious use of language and narrow-minded view of world events.

The work you do with watchdog and humanitarian organizations is something more people should get involved in, but don’t ever assume that the activists involved in “peace” movements are backed by such benevolent organizations. And don’t assume either that to be “pro-war” is the opposite of “pro-peace.”

Sometime, though it breaks my heart, we have to fight for peace.
